"My sister from another mother and my best friend. The day I met Shayka I knew she was going to be a friend for life. It’s been over 20 plus years. I cannot put it into words how loved Shayka is by myself and my entire family (immediate ) As the years went by I witnessed Shayka’s ups and downs. Shayka no matter what bad situation she faced Shayka would cry until she couldn’t cry no more, she would wipe her tears, and she would get up and fight tooth and nail. Shayka may have had her crazy moments but when it was time to get serious and take care of business she did just that. Shayka people that look in from the outside will never know the real Shaykayarira DelRio. I’ve seen your brokenness, I’ve experienced your love for your children as mother. You did more than enough for your boys. You could have been in another state but when them boys needed you, you dropped everything and you got to them. I experienced a woman who didn’t know if she was coming or going. No one other than your family, myself, and Jackie will never understand how we understand you and the reasoning behind all your shenanigans. Nonetheless you have done a complete 360. I would have never in a million years would have imagined that you would be in the position you are in today. You have always been a smart cookie and you know your shit but to see you In the public eye, dealing with politics, on the School board, helping mothers who have experienced gun violence after what you have experienced with your sons. You are the definition of resilience, hope, and determination. You have a book to write and a story to tell that will give hope to many woman. I love you my sister!! No matter what life will throw at you going forward stand up tall and show the world what you are made of!!!" Best Regards, Gloria Hernandez
